Burton Cup Bowls

Almost perfect weather favoured the hundreds of bowlers who converged on Gisborne during Easter to compete for the Burton Cup, one of the most coveted of bowling trophies. Both the Kahutia and Poverty Bay greens were occupied fully for three days, presenting an animated picture as game after game was played. Eventually all the rinks were eliminated except two, H. Martin's Kahutia four, and H. Spence's visitors from Hastings. In the final Martin beat Spence 26 to 19.
