Newton King Cup

One of the highlights of the Gisborne Club's activities is the annual trial for the Newton King Cup. This year, the club drove to Tokomaru Bay and returned to Gisborne. One car made the trip without the loss of any marks. Driven by Hans Kwak, the car was navigated by his girlfriend, Pat James. This is quite an achievement in car-club circles as special conditions are imposed on the drivers and usually their destination is unknown. A series of checkpoints are set up along the route where further instructions are received which take them to the next check.

The various activities of car clubs generally, help to improve driving conditions for all road users as they report unsuspected hazards to the authorities and vehicle faults to manufacturers.
