Queen Carnival Finale

The end of the Queen Carnival last month saw the Olympic Swimming Pool Committee nearly £5,000 nearer its objective. Over £1800 of this amount was raised by the Ex-Navalmen's Association Queen, Anne Grantham. The amount raised is only a small portion of the sum needed to build the pool. However, the committee are already embarked on their next project. This is the organisation in the Poverty Bay District of the Junior Mr and Miss New Zealand contest. Not being anything in the nature of a beauty contest, there should be a good number of entries as the only qualifications required are, age between 16 and 20 and applicants to have their school certificate or better. Philips Radio are the national sponsors and the prize of a year overseas is well worth winning.
