An Ayrshire cow, "Awakeri Blanche", owned by Mr V. Griffan, Makauri, which was champion of all breeds at the 196l A and P Show, has now qualified as a merit cow.

A mobile hoist commencing salvage operations on a closed truck which left the road at the corner of Coldstream and Wainul Roads, and plunged through the ditch and about 100 yards of paddocks, taking three fences with it in its path.

Smith's Creek, which supplies the Mangapoike Dam water to the main pipeline during dry periods, is pictured at its. junction with the Te Arai Stream deep in the heart of the 2400 acres of beautiful native bush which covers the catchment area. The intake is situated behind the pipes which cross the creek causing a backwater, and the waterfall is caused by concrete embedded pipes running up to the Te Arai intake.
