Pianist Bill Kerekere

Well known Gisborne Maori pianist, Bill Kerekere, of 75 Stout Street, recently recorded a 45 r.p.m, extended play disc of popular favourites entitled "Bill Kerekere Plays Evergreens of Melody". In doing so, he became the first Maori popular pianist on record.

Presented in Bill's most enjoyable style of natural improvisations, with gentle accompaniment by bass player Tony Eagleton and drummer Harry Macconnachie, who are both members of the Wellington band, Tony and the Initials, the record has proved a good seller, and could well lead to bigger things for Gisborne's "reluctant genius".......the term used to describe Bill by visiting British musician, Larry Adler.
