"Wild Nell"
A. J. Laughter Crank Abduction (With apologies to J. Arthur Rank)
A hilariously nonsensical sketch, revolving round the adventures and mis-adventures of that "glamorous" daughter of the West, "Wild Nell", was presented by the Elgin, Parent-Teacher Association at Rugby Park when they entertained the Awapuni P.T.A. to an evening of fun and laughter last month.
The plot of the sketch roughly followed the time-worn tale of the eternal triangle with an abduction by Red Indians thrown in for good measure.
To commence the skit, a physical wreck (Bill Coppell), passing himself off as an employee of the J. Arthur Rank Organisation, was called on to "ring the gong".
Bill Carrington as Hula Hula the medicine woman
Chief Sitting Bull (Clara McNee) and Bill Durren (Jess Warren) abducting Nell's refined competitor from the East, Lady Ver da Grease (Noel Jeffery). The narrator, Max Cotter, is at right.
