Miss Patricia Keane, dancing with her partner and teacher, Mr Charles Fitness, recently became the first Gisborne resident to win the coveted ballroom dancing Oscar.... the highest award obtainable in New Zealand by an amateur. The tests, which were held in Gisborne, consisted of a selection of six ballroom and Latin American dances.

Gisborne delegate to the New Zealand Royal Air Force Association's annual conference, in Nelson, Mr Nike Jeory, receiving the B grade shooting trophy from Mrs A. H. McGrath, the wife of the Dominion president-elect, at the prizegiving function.

Tony Harvey, son of Mr and Mrs T. J. Harvey, 136 Russell Street, who has returned to Singapore to join a Shell Oil Company tanker after having spent three-and-a-half monthe' furlough in New Zealand. Said Tony of Photo News, "It is always a red letter day when the "Photo News" arrives, as it is my chief up-to-the-minute contact with home".

Ramon Goodley, son of Mr and Mrs G. Goodley, Ormond Road, who is a senior 2nd engineer on the M.V. "Port Montreal", is spending three monthe leave with his parents before returning to England.

Private P. Haronga, of Gisborne, who is stationed with the 1st N.Z. Regt. at Terendak, Malacca, Malaya, recently wrote home to his family to tell them that he was leaving for the border and would not be able to write till after Christmas.
