Fire Practice at Watties

Gisborne's newest fire engine was given a try-out on a recent Saturday morning when the Gisborne Fire Brigade carried out a practice at the factory of J. Wattle Canneries.

Four pumps concentrated over a thousand gallons of water a minute on the imaginary blaze.

Firemen were given a good familiarisation under conditions as near the real thing as possible.

They worked in breathing apparatus, carried out a rescue operation, brought nine hoses to bear on the "blaze", and put it out in less than an hour.

Members of Watties' staff joined in the exercise.
