Voting Far From Home

Memorial Gate Opened

×

About half the electors in new Zealand cities can't be bothered to go to the polls to vote for their elected representatives, but here Mr and Mrs W. F. Scott, of Missouri, recent visitors to Gisborne, are fulfilling their democratic responsibilities far from home. And just look at those papers! They had to vote for everything from Senator down to Dog Tax Collector. And it cost Mr Scott 10/- to airmail the papers back to the States.

Mr Barker, the Mayor, is seen attesting the papers.

On opening day at the Riverside Women's Bowling Club, the Mayoress, Mrs Barker, officially opened the new gate to the greens, presented by Mr E. J. Robinson in memory of his late wife, Thelma, who was for many years a valued member of the club. The picture shows members assembled for the ceremony, with the gate in the background.
