Yorkshire-born Mrs Barbara Moore, of 384 Palmerston Road, since coming to Gisborne to live almost 50 years ago, has been actively associated with music in most of its forms. She is the proud owner of 25 different instruments, the majority of which are in the string section, including violins, guitars, mandolins, a fiddlette, and a double bass, and until recently, owned an Irish harp. Many of these were made by her late husband, Mr Geo Moore, who played with his wife in the Cosmopolitan Orchestra for over 40 years.

Mrs Moore, whose favourite instrument is the violin, has a few pupils, teaching all except one of her comprehensive range of instruments.

This unusual species of begonia, grown in a pot, almost fills the front room at the residence of Mrs A. Currie, 179 Stout Street. The plant is ten years old, and the flowers have delicate pink petals. Mrs Currie is seen in the background.
