Thrills and Spills

Burning up the track in this series of pictures are the speedway boys of the Gisborne Motor-Cycle Club, who turned on a six-event display at the showgrounds recently. Racing of a high standard was seen, especially from Gisborne's Julie Benson and Hasting's Hec Mayhead and Maurie Dunn, all of whom have had experience overseas.

Speedway

Gisborne Motor Cycle Club has small but enthusiastic membership. On December 28 and 29 it will conduct a championship meeting at the showgrounds.

Technique on the bends. Mayhead in a rapid sequence photo series demonstrates how to take a curve. Note how front wheel is slanted to outside of bend and left foot acts as third support as rear wheel slides out from under.
