Fire Brigade's Centenary

The Nelson Fire Brigade had a celebration last month. They deserved it. Not only because this is the centenary year of the brigade, but also because its efficiency during those 100 years, and particularly in recent years, warrants such a celebration. And make no mistake.' Our brigade is efficient, as witness the big store fires in Nelson late last year and the manner in which the brigade prevented the spread of the fire in the Curnow and Wilton blaze last month. Just for the record, the brigade was formed in 1866 after a particularly bad fire, but the board did not come into existence until 1933 As part of the celebrations the brigade turned on the displays seen on this page.
