A Time To Travel
Many of the faces on this page you will recognise. What, then, you say, have teachers got to do with our heading? The answer is, of course, that most of the faces have already travelled on, out of Nelson, where their probationary teaching time was spent.
Thirty-eight young teachers received their graduation certificates from Mr D. S. Deacon, senior inspector of schools, at a function in the Nelson Intermediate School.
The Enner Glynne School lost four of its teachers in one fell swoop, A farewell function was arranged for them. Those leaving were Miss Elaine Wallace, Miss Faith Anderson (to be married), Alan Turley and Carol Don (a trip overseas.) With them is head, Mr Stan Foley.
Mr R. S. Austin, director of the Travel Division of the Tourist Department, visited Nelson to discuss tourism with interested organisations.
