Rain At Richmond
One of the carnival attractions affected worst by the vagaries of the weather, was the Richmond Jaycees' gala at the showgrounds. What was to have been Richmond's carnival effort attracted few visitors, roost of them preferring the warmth of tents and caravans to the liquid sunshine that abounded.
Irene Henderson on Flash was competitor for fancy dress
Baby show was big success, winners here in the under 6 months group being Mrs Betty Broadbelt (Christchurch) and Sandra (2nd) and Mrs Deirdre Kent (Nelson) and David (1st).
Calf-riding provided some amusement, for onlookers at least
Mothers lined up with their white hopes in baby contest
