Top Seed Beaten By Dave Simmonds
The Wellington professional, Dave Simmonds, well known to Nelson players through his coaching visits, won the Wales' South Island tennis singles title when he beat Bill Brown of the United States in five sets. The tournament attracted a strong contingent of competitors which included New Zealand Davis Cup reserve Tony Parun, Richard Knight (USA) and the Australian, Robert Reinberger, who is domiciled in Spain.
