Exciting Go Karting

A large crowd was treated to a full programme of racing, with plenty of thrills and spills, at the Gisborne Amateur Go Kart Club's annual Queen's Birthday weekend meeting at their circuit in Awapuni Road.

Thirty-three drivers, from Opotiki, Wairoa, and Gisborne, were competing in the keenly contested races, making the meeting one of the most successful in the club's history.

In the 10 laps Le Mans Open race, a mishap occurred on the first bend. A kart, sliding out of control, collided with another and flipped over, landing on top of its driver.

Fortunately, it rolled clear, leaving its prostrate driver lying on the track while other interested competitors race past.
