District semi-finalists in the Skellerup Industries £200 road safety contest, grouped on the stairs in Common Sheltons where the local finals were held. In front is the winner, 11-years-old Adrienne Shanks of Tolaga Bay, with Air Hostess Julianne Nuttal, and Mike Brittenden, one of the Judging committee. The others are: Ron Goodall, Kevin Vette, Mark Duncan, John Christey, Lesley Milne, Patricia Allen, and Adrienne Johnson.

Mr Daniel D. Finnigan M.A., son of Mr and Mrs J. D. Finnigan, 350 Ormond Road, who is the Rotary Foundation Fellow for 1962-63. He left for India last month to study at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Bombay.

A large plume of black smoke, which rose high over the city from the vicinity of a petroleum supply depot on the lower slopes of Kaiti Hill, attracted the attention of many city residents. "Photo News" raced to the scene, with visions of blazing petrol tanks, only to find that a rubbish fire at the rear of the Kaiti Freezing Works was responsible.
