Canterbury Bowlers Come to Gisborne

Bowling is a sport which excites tremendous interest among bowlers, but has little appeal for the casual spectator. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people in a city the size of Gisborne have never seen inside a bowling green. Were they to look, they would find a spirit of enthusiasm and fraternity which is, to say the least, remarkable. Bowlers, for instance, think nothing of travelling hundreds of miles to mix with fellow—bowlers in another part of the country. They know they will be welcome anywhere they go, find games to play any day of the week, and be sure of a good time.

Last month, for instance, 28 Canterbury bowlers descended on Gisborne. They played bowls at Gisborne, Tokomaru, and Te Karaka, enjoyed the traditional hospitality which all bowlers extend to other bowlers, and went home well-pleased with their trip. Hardly had they gone than 35 Waikato Men came to town on a similar expedition.
