On his retirement from teaching, Mr C. G. Rigby, headmaster of Mangapapa School, was met by the staff and pupils of the school and presented with a fireside chair in token of their appreciation of his services.
Mr and Mrs Rigby are seen at left with senior staff members, Miss Cook, Miss Reeve, and Mr Taylor.

Later, in lighter vein, Mr Rigby found himself the recipient of this special gift (below) from the staff.

The centre fours championship title for the Gisborne-East Coast Bowling Centre for 1957-58 was won by the Gisborne Club's top four in the final against Wairoa, played on the Kahutia green.
Skipped by W. J. Langlands, the Gisborne team won by 23 to 11.
