THE GREAT RELAY RACE

The Huka Jet Great Lake Relay around Lake Taupo tested the mettle of the 79 social teams, 14 competition teams and the lone individual competitors.

Starting at 2-30am the 20 x 16km stages took the individual runner 17hrs to complete. The ten strong Gisborne Runners and Walkers team, with each team member running 2stages, took 12hrs 20mins to complete and they were only 2 minutes behind the leaders. Highlights included the coldness at the start, the lack of visibility for the early runners, the use of waterpistols and Maree's blue lips and hands in the coldness of her start. Next year the Club hopes to enter two teams. Congratulations to the Club, the runners and backup crew.
