21st & 40th CELEBRATIONS

Bruce and Brian Johnstone celebrated their respective 21st and 40th birthdays recently with a party in the Sovereign Ballroom. Guests came from around N Z and as far away as London to enjoy the occasion.

NORTHOVER ~ WILSON

Hayden Emily Wilson, daughter of Ana Wilson announced her engagement to Corey Dwayne Northover, son of Emily and Robert Northover.

90th BIRTHDAY

In his younger years Alan Barnes-Graham qualified 6th for the N Z Amateur titles. At 74 he was able to shoot his age on the golf course. At 90 he still frequents the practise areas and it is well within his ability to do a round under 90. Alan has been offered the use of a motorised buggy so perhaps he will do it one day.

SCHOLARSHIP

Sheena Mannering-Tawera, daughter of Bruce and the late Pare Mannering of Tikitiki, graduated from Waikato University Bachelor of Social Sciences and was selected as the first holder of the Whaia te iti Kahurangi - The Parliamentary Maori Staff Scholarship. Sheena is an ex Riverdale, Waerenga-o-Kuri and Lytton pupil. She was the first Poverty Bay /Hawke's Bay girl to win a N Z Gold Medal for Gymnastics and was one of the early members in Doug Callahan's Trampoline Club. Now Sheena will work as a library assistant in the Data Base section of the Parliamentary Library. Next year they will pay her fees to do a Masters Degree in Library and Information Studies. Sheena acknowledges that all her achievements have been realised with her whanau's support.

21st BIRTHDAY

Warwick Garth, son of Dot and Peter Garth celebrated his 21st Birthday in January.

80th BIRTHDAY

Kathleen Mary Muirhead celebrated her 80th year "with a wonderful lot of friends" at the Hearing Rooms in Palmerston Road.Kathleen Mary Robinson was educated at Te Hapara School. She has moved about quite a lot but has always returned to Gisborne, her home. Don Simmons, a cousin from Flamstead, St Albans in England, travelled to N Z to partner Kathleen on this special occasion.
