Gisborne City Season

The Gisborne City soccer team is currently lingering at the top end of the Premier League. The team, boosted by the inclusion of a goal hungry Northern Irishman, has an undefeated at home record and has shown that despite the arduous 30 hour trips to away games (played in Wellington) that they are capable of winning the league. The bulk of the team is made up of locally born players who have come through from the junior to the senior level. Their successes are a reminder to the soccer fraternity that Gisborne City is alive and kicking, following a proud tradition (22 players have represented N Z whilst playing for the Club) Credit must go to the small hard working committee which has stuck to the task of maintaining a team competing at the highest level possible.

A huge factor in the City team is Gavin Arthur who played for the Irish Club. Crusaders. Gavin (Blue), the League's top goal scorer, tries to chip the Miramar keeper. City won 3 -0

Jason Lexmond & Craig West threw themselves at the ball, as did Grant Cooper (kneeling) in this near post action with League leaders Tararua, beaten soundly 5 -1 putting the 'Sky Blues' on top of the Premier League.

Craig West stops another attack. Craig stepped up from the Boys' High team to City this year. His defence has been outstanding.

Gavin Arthur competes for every ball. He made life for defenders hell as this Tararua player found out.
