ATHLETICS

Athletics in Poverty Bay is in great shape judging from action at the recent Club Championships where there were some outstanding performances. Karen File set a club record in the 800m in 2min 23sec shaving 4 seconds off the previous record.

Collin Kerr has proven his athletic talent in several events this season and is one of the "superstars" of PB athletics. On the left he is pictured in action with the discus where he won the U/18 title with a throw of 29.38m and on the right winning the high jump with the bar at 1.70m. Collin took out the 100m & 200m with times of 11.2 sec and 23.4 sec, just 0.1 and 0.2 of a second outside the club best. Below centre: Dennis Stevens winning the Senior Mens Discus with a distance of 22.08m.

An essential ingredient in the success of any sports meeting are the officials. This group did their bit for the cause (Front to Back): John Williams, Dave Conway, Jim Kerr and Howard Bott. Centre: Andrea Molisa, Kelly Fraser (13.3sec) & Emma Shanks - U/18 100m.

It was a great contest for the U/14 high jump title. Daniel Conway and Andrew Bott both achieved personal bests during the competition. Daniel won with a jump of 1.48m, 15cms higher than he'd jumped before, while Andrew's PB went from 1.43 to 1.46m.
