EASTLAND SPORTS AWARDS

It was a pleasure to be there. It was also nice to be part of an event which paid tribute to the out standing amount of sporting talent in this district. Sport Eastland's John Hughes organised an exciting evening right down to the outstanding guest speaker Kathrine Switzer, a gifted sportsperson and raconteur who entertained the capacity crowd with her wonderful saga of a women's determination to have womens distance running accepted. In fact Kathrine was instrumental in getting the women's marathon into the Olympics and she works tirelessly in the sponsorship field which she believes is vital to the future of sport. Sportsperson of the Year, Mark Jefferson (pictured below with his parents Robin and Mary), was a worthy recipient of the title. His ability in the two sports of Rugby and Cricket and the high level he has attained is a credit to this young man.
