CHEF QUARTER –MARATHON–

The 12th Chef Quarter Marathon supporting Plunket-Karitane Family Centre Gisborne in the Year of the Family was organised by the Gisborne Marathon Clinic. The 10.55Km certified course created a challenge for the serious runners and a venue of family fun for the 767 entrants. Ron Robertson, last year's winner, set a blistering pace to finish 1st in 34mins 55secs into a strong North Westerly wind & dehydrating conditions ahead of Brett Ryan (35.30) Tracey Clissold (37.37) was the 1st lady to finish with Karen File (39.09) 2nd. The race attracted several extra sections such as blade racers who started 5mins behind the pack and a couple of horsemen who were mosseyin' along (on & off) with Riding Club for the Disabled instructors to assist.

The start saw more than 700 people crammed across Ormond Road opposite Marina Park. It was the place to be for the serious starters.

Blade Runners Louise Young (725), Don Cameron (125) and Graeme Harre started 5 mins behind the pack.

Tony More (140) one of Gisbornes' up and coming competitors finished in 41.04 to win the 12-15yrs group. Vetran Russell Smythe (655) & the ever competetive Pete Moysey at Peel Street.

Kate Davy was the 12th Race Director of the former Heart of Gisborne Fun Run & Walk. Kate & her fellow Gisborne Marathon Clinic hardworking volunteers laid out the course, kept the finishing order statistics & provided the officials to ensure the success of the Chef Quarter Marathon.
