It was a weekend for the underdogs. A brilliant Poverty Bay team, playing their best rugby for years, beat Thames Valley 40-20 to secure a place in the final of the 3rd Division National Provincial Championship. Un unexpected win by Mid-Canterbury over previously undefeated Wanganui (22-13) meant the final, live on TV, would be played in Ashburton. 80 minutes of effort by a totally determined team had the crowd on its feet as PB ran in some superb tries winning the semi-final in grand style.
