Rugby League Finals

Afitting final few minutes of flowing football by both sides in the Grand Final of Rugby League was witnessed by a vocal crowd of supporters at Awapuni Stadium. The halftime score reflected the danger of an on form Panthers attack as they converted opportunities into points. The 2nd half showed the Eels responding with a scoring spree which saw them surge through the gaps to make them the Champs.

A sea of jubulent faces & a triumphant wave to everyone, the EELS, the Grand Final Winners, the capping of a great season for the red & black.

Late in the game Lou Horua finnished off a fast, running move by the Eels which saw him through the defence to score beside the post then with this well struck kick added 2 points towards the win.

Repongaere No 10, Glenn Tupara, was rewarded with a try when he crashed through the tackles of Panthers Mark Campbell & John Kora.

Panther supporters were on their feet as Butch Tuhou was pulled down by Tom Hawea. Tom was hanging on as Glenn Tupara begins to be the 2nd tackler with Dean Hawea & Troy McHugh prepared to assist if needed. Dan Tuho, the referee, stands in the background with Wi Taingahue (No 9) setting himself for the the next charge at the Eels line.

The Panthers playing "catch me If you can football" as Wi Taingahue sets up another attacking move. Wi had left Troy McHugh (No 11) in his wake committing Tom Hawea inside leaving Thomas Tupou (No 9) open to begin to overlap the Eels defence with quick hands.
