Rothmans
RALLY OF NEW ZEALAND 1994

Scotsman Colin McRae needed a good result in this year's Rothmans Rally of NZ to keep his career alive. The Subaru Impreza driven by McRae built up an insurmountable lead over the stages in the Gisborne area and never looked like being beaten. He finished 2 minutes 14 seconds ahead of the top seed in the 82 car field, Finn Juha Kankkunen in a Toyota Celica. Thousands of Gisborne people followed and watched the rally from every vantage point and with up to a dozen helicopters in the air, there was almost as much action in the sky as on the road.
