The standard of competition was hot. The winner of heat 1 was Nelson Parker from Dargaville who won the World Title at the Royal Easter Show, Sydney, 1993.

Local Champion and President of the Poverty Bay Axemen's Club Hoot Knowles (who has chopped for N Z) Although he won the 2nd heat of the day he didn't progress past the semi finals. Hoot came 3rd In the Double Hand Sawing.

Winners of the Double Hand Sawing were: 1st Jason Wynyard & Lance Houpapa, 2nd Rex & Lance Trow, Mike Treloar (Event Sponsor), 3rd Mac Koni & Wayne Barham and 4th were Les Bellamy & Alistair Taylor.
