Watkins Painting Reproduced Locally

Increasing interest in the outstanding work of the late Kennett Watkins has prompted Gisborne art dealer Brian Sherriff to publish a limited edition of one of the paintings of this brilliant artist who has strong local ties. This venture is a great tribute to the painter as the cost involved in such a project is considerable. The reproduction of the painting, which is the first work of this kind to be done in Gisborne, was carried out by two firms in collaboration, and made possible by the owners of the original 30" x 24" water colour, Mr and Mrs K. Williams, Matahiia, Ruatoria. Considerable praise of the high standard of the venture by Mr Tony Murray-Oliver, MA, Anzla, of the Turnbull Library, Wellington, is tribute to the quality of the reproduction.

The painting is of a scene at the western end of Lake Rotoaira (not far from the Wanganui diversion tunnel intake of the Tongariro power scheme), and was painted in 1890.
