Not Fair...

Last month's article (on scalds) in support of the Health Department Home Safety Year campaign was got at by the gremlins. It is now presented here with this month's feature on the care of, and safety with, guns.

... on the hospital staff, on the plastic surgeons, on the doctors, but most of all on the children. Sure it is part of the hospital's duty, and sure plastic surgeons are almost miracle workers, and sure doctors give tireless service ... but the damage to a child's body and mind can be shocking just through being badly scalded. And as with nearly all accidents most of them are preventable.

Save your child untold misery by keeping scalding liquid right out of harm's way, whether it be electric jugs, buckets of hot water, hot baths (use your elbow to test the temperature), pots of hot food, hot fat or oil.

More Than 1800 Children Were Admitted To Hospitals For Scalds And Burns Last Year. It's just not good enough! Electric jugs were far ahead of any other cause for scalding in the above figure.

A holder for the jug costs very little and could prevent an accident in your home. Parents of young children can only blame themselves for this type of cruelty to children. Keep pot handles turned inwards too.

A permanent jug holder prevents children from pulling boiling water over themselves.

This type of jug holder is available from the Plunket rooms at small cost. You owe it to your youngsters to keep the dangers of scalding out of reach. Yakking on and telling them to keep away is not the answer!
