100 Years' Banking

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group is celebrating 100 years of trading in Gisborne this year. On March 11, 1873, the original Union Bank opened an agency in Gisborne, then in 1892 the Bank of Australasia opened a branch in this city. In 1951 the parent banks merged to become the ANZ Banking Group, with the two Gisborne branches joining together a year later. To celebrate the group's centenary, staff of both Head Office and Midway branch dressed in period costume for the occasion.
