A four day extension class in Japanese was held at St. Mary's College towards the end of the school holidays. It was conducted by languages lecturer Peter Wells as part of the Waikato University Extension. The course included Japanese language construction and oral work. Up at the Rerekohu District High School at Te Araroa we see Mr Geoffrey Case (left) and Mr Arthur Hill of the Ambassadors for Christ playing to the children of the primary department. These two men held a five-day campaign in Te Araroa, with lunch hour sessions at the primary department, films and lectures about other countries at the High School, and three meetings on the marae.

December '70 and January '71 birthday celebrants from the Old Folks' Association included, from left, Mrs J. C. Hatten, Miss I. Wheeler, Mrs E. Graham, Mrs E. Stanbridge and Mrs M. Dunn. The afternoon tea and cake cutting was held in Adairs' coffee shop where members gathered after starting the new year off with a sightseeing bus tour around the city and countryside.

Cheryl English, 17, has left for the U.S.A. on a Rotary scholarship. A student in Wellington, Cheryl is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ken English. Ken was well known in Gisborne before he left to work and marry in Wellington just on 20 years ago.
