In 1921, on February 2, Hilda Gardner married Harry Bacon in the Church of Christ. and now, of course, they are celebrating their golden wedding. The couple have spent all their married life in Oswald Street, first at No.18 then over the last years at No.20. Mr Bacon came out from England in 1912 and for 30 years was a salesman for the Gas Company, and for 19 years after that a salesman for Adairs. Mrs Bacon emigrated from England in 1909.

In 1923, on the first of March, a young fellow by the name of Norman Bennett started work as a clerk with Common Shelton & Co. He has been with the firm ever since and retired recently after 47 years' service. In that time he progressed from clerk, to accountant, to secretary in 1961.
