Brian Laing - Model - making

A hobbyist with a great number of models to show for the time and effort spent on making them is Brian Laing, 15, of 1 Elsthorpe Avenue. A pupil of Lytton High and the elder son of Mr and Mrs Ray Laing, Brian has been making models since he first became interested at the age of three, when, in hospital in Taihape he was given a small model of Christopher Colombus's ship the Santa Maria by an old gentleman, also in hospital, who made models. From that time to this, Brian has made something in the vicinity of 150 models of various types but mostly planes and some ships.

A good proportion of his models have been obtained from England and right now he is working on a large balsa wood plane. This is a de Havilland Mosquito, a twin engined job which, when completed will fly but be guided from the ground by control line.
