Bounding Boat Race
"Over the bounding main" was certainly the order of the day for the 23 entrants in the power boat race held over a distance of 12 miles in the Bay.
A southerly wind which brought a slight swell and a small chop gave rise to some spectacular leaps by some of the boats but also caused the retirement of several through damage.
However, the venture was a great success and there were plenty of thrills for participants and spectators alike.

Ivan Tyerman, Don Thorburn and Gordon Fraser were three of the scrutineers who checked all boats before the race.
