The new wharf and harbour berthage for overseas ships has been put to full use since its opening. The building of the wharf has certainly been justified, as can be seen in this particular instance by the amount of wool being- loaded out of the district.

Scene of the crash and untimely death of helicopter pilot Frank Mettner at Ruatoria where he was spraying crops. American born and raised, Frank settled in Gisborne about five years ago with his wife and family and had almost become a living legend on the Coast. Always quick to help out in any emergency, he put his copter to many and varied uses for the benefit of others. He will be sorely missed.

Members of the Gisborne Pottery Group who, a couple of months ago obtained a building for use as headquarters and potting, spent time more recently giving it the once-over with the paint brush, The building is creosoted for maximum protection, and looks very attractive with white trim. At work, 1. to r., are Mesdames Florence Redstone, Jo Hacking, Eve Armstrong, Wendy Fitzgerald and Patricia Moloney.
