Surf Carnival Highlights

The combined Midway and Waikanae surf carnival held early in January attracted a large crowd. Three or four highlights ensured the success of the carnival. A sky dive by Bob Stevens of the Auckland Parachute Club provided the crowd with a thrill when he did a free fall of a mile, from the Aero Club's Cessna, before opening his parachute. The launching of Midway's new $300 surf rescue canoe, too, was an important event of the afternoon.

A sand modelling contest was also held and place-getters were, from below. left, Brian Wilsher, Max Burns and Susan Harding.
