The alternative stock route through Gisborne, proposed by the Municipal Council, is shown marked with a heavy line on this map. The route involves the construction of a new bridge across the Waimata River at Owen Road, and this bridge is the subject of a difference of opinion between the Manicipal Council and the Cook County Council. It is expected that a commission will sit in the near future to determine if the bridge proposal is a reasonable one, and if so, what proportions of the cost should be borne by the two local bodies.
