Taken at the Te Karaka Sports in 1930, this picture shows the former Poverty Bay champion for many years, Thornley Campbell, winning the 1½ mile cycle race on the inside of the track.
Standing nearest the line in blazer and hat is the handicapper, A. C. Swann, the noted rugby writer and editor.

Attending the Pioneer Re union, a reunion of First World War Maori Veterans at Ruatoki are the Lockwood twins, Joe (left) of Gisborne and Mason, of Anaura Bay.

In this snap taken prior to the war are, at back, H. K. Tamihana (Roving Hori himself), D.R. (Ra) Marino, Bill Perston, and Weti Te Ao Tamihana and Victor Kutia.
Hori still lives in Tolaga Bay, while Ra, who has driven on the municipal bus routes for the past 15 years, and Bill, who is with the Cook County Council, both live in Gisborne.
Weti and Victor were both killed overseas in the war.

Some of these "young men about town" of 1912 are still living around Gisborne although they will be quick to tell you that they're not as young as they used to be.
