Training Course For Ambulance Cadets

Thirteen Ruatoria St.John Ambulance cadets and one from New Caledonia spent four days in Gisborne recently training for their sea and boating, and swimming tests.

Headed by Cadet Superintendent Hugh Hughes, the party trained in two Takitimu Sea Scout boats under the supervision of instructors Gary Moles and Basil Johnstone.

They are pictured on the craft in the Turanganui River, watched from the bank by Gisborne District Officer Roy Williams, Gisborne sub-centre president Dr Barry-Kahlenberg, Hugh Hughes and Rolland Fabre, the excnange student from New Caledonia who is at Ruatoria for one month.

The boys in the boats are Mack Fox, Jacob Fox, Major Poutu, Tai Poutu, Charles Poutu, John Logan, Don Kawhia, Paul Cornwall, Peter Brown, John Sutherland, Wiremu Kawhai, Steven Carlyle and Claude Walker.
