High School Rowing Reps

A number of enthusiastic teams from the Boys' High School attended the Waikato and Bay of Plenty High Schools' 13th annual rowing regatta held on Lake Karapiro recently where conditions were fairly good.

Eighteen schools competed at the regatta in which six heats preceded the eight main events.

The Gisborne 5th Form Four No.2 crew were first in their final, and the 4th Form Four were third equal in theirs.

While it is appreciated that extra boats are made available from the Gisborne Rowing Club it is a pity that the boys have not the advantage of having all their own first-class equipment. Events proved such at Karapiro that, if the boys had had good, new, light vessels, instead of their thirteen-year-old heavy ones, they would have come home with a good share of the placings.

It is to be hoped that the acquisition of some new boats will be a reality in the not too distant future.
