Mr Sharples was well known as an accomplished pianist and orchestra leader, took an active interest in Association football, athletics, cricket and cycling, and for the past 11 years was secretary of the P.B. A Waerenga-a-hika farmer for many years, Mr John Ernest Coleridge Jennings, only son of Mrs and the late Rev. Edward Jennings, died recently. Mr Jennings served with the N.Z. forces in the first world war, in which he was wounded. Returning, he served the district for many years as an expert wool-classer. A keen shot, he developed during hunting expeditions an interest in botany and geology, and accumulated a great store of knowledge about the district, in which he was aided by his ability to speak Maori Fluently.
