Gorgonzola Piles

×

On New Year's Eve the Nelson Highland Pipe Band found they were given a real welcome from campers at the Tahuna Motor Camp. Let's hope it won't be too long before they're playing (in safety) at the midnight celebrations below the clock tower.

Now firmly established as one of the Kerr family of Grove Street is this little fawn, found in the bush during a shooting expedition by Mr Kerr. With it are David Hughes and Gavin and Rowan Kerr.

Looking for all the world like a gorgonzola cheese are these cross sections of hardwood piles taken from temporary piles at Picton. They have been attacked by a shell fish called teredo, which have a penchant for hardwood. The piles were driven only four years ago. Mr Eric Ensor, forester with the New Zealand Forest Service, holding the wood, says that experiments at Picton on treated timbers produced in Blenheim are meeting with great success. The shell fish bore into the piles and live there, but gain their food from the water.
