During our ramblings we chanced upon members of the Nelson Pigeon Club preparing birds for a race. At left, Fred Sears and Ron Hill ring the birds, and Jim Wilde, Stan Wilde and Alec Giblin prepare birds for ringing. Below, we found official clock setter Ken Schofield, second from left seated, with Roger James and at the back, young enthusiasts Dale Roper, Dominic Pricolo, Gavin McLachlan.

For the third successive year Morris Amos and his boat, Tamoure, brought home to Nelson the South Island javelin championship, sailed this year at Lyttelton, over Labour Weekend. Tamoure, Morris, and his forard hand, Hugh Sim, are off to Australia in December to compete in the world 14-footer championships. Morris received an invitation from Australia to compete and along with boats from Auckland will be competing against English, Australian, South African and Canadian 14-footers. The trophy at stake is the Australian Challenge Trophy.
