A Decade of Education Completed
The completion of the first 10 years in the life of Waimea College was marked with three days of celebrations at the college last month. The celebrations commenced with a commemorative assembly attended by the Director-General of Education, Dr K. J. Sheen, and former pupils of the college. Matches between past and present pupils were played, and the social gatherings included a morning tea, a cocktail party and a ball.
Recalling the past in the photographs in the library were Sheng Yee (1962-66) and Bill Rait (1961-65).
Watched by the Principal, Dr F. E. Gallas, Colleen Broadley (1961-64) signs the register.
Pupils gathered in the assembly hall for the commemorative assembly
Few of the original staff now remain. The only four are Mr J. Lewis (deputy Principal), Miss R. M. Stewart (senior assistant mistress), Mr J. S. Hogg (head of science department) and Dr Gallas.
