Procession Preceded Shield Challenge
We were going to head this "Shield Fever", but although there were thousands on the street to watch the procession that preceded the Seddon Shield game, there was certainly no "fever". In fact', had it not been for the bands, a "deadly 'ush" would have hung over the streets. Crowd reaction to the procession was disappointing, especially for the participants who had obviously taken a lot of trouble with many of the floats. Although most of the floats favoured Nelson, the Marlborough Supporters' Club made sure that Nelson did not escape unscathed by entering several well-decorated floats.
