Anzac Day

Heavy overnight rain throughout the province curtailed Anzac Day services. In the central Nelson area, a hurried consultation of officials in the Morning resulted in the service being transferred to the Majestic Theatre which was all but filled to capacity. At the conclusion of the indoor service, wreath bearers and a firing party led by the Nelson Highland Pipe Band marched to the memorial on Church Hill where wreaths were laid. For the first time, cinemas opened on the afternoon of Anzac Day and sports were played also.
