Cadets Receive Jungle Training

Senior members of the Waimea College cadet unit entered upon a new phase of their cadet training during barracks week. Under the charge of master, Mr Harold Nelson, and army personnel, L/Cpl Colin Hargreaves and Private Lyn Kilkelly, the cadets spent three days in the Lake Rotoiti area doing jungle and survival exercises while cadets in the sister services carried out similar practical exercises in Nelson. During the three days, the college principal, Dr F. E. Gallas, a very experienced mountaineer, joined the cadets and instructed them in rock climbing. Dr Gallas and one of his cadets, John Sheaf, are featured on this page.
