After an undue delay the eight bells to be installed in the cathedral tower arrived in Nelson the day before the consecration. It was not possible to instal them all, but workmen managed to bang one bell temporarily so that it could be rung on this joyous occasion.

This is but a small portion of the tremendous amount of equipment brought to Nelson for the television filming of the ceremonies.

Bishop Sutton is presented with a book on the history of Nelson by the Mayor (Mr D. N. Strawbridge) at a council function the next day.

Chatting with the Bishop at the council function were Dean Bretton, Rev Father S. Stapleton, the Diocesan secretary (the Rev W. F. Wilkens), and the Rev R. T. Murphy.
